Dr. F. Vincent Allison
Dear Fellow Hornets
We have a great opportunity to help some of the
current Hillside Students. It is time for us to step up and give back to
the school that gave so much to us. This spring, The Hillside AVID
Program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is taking 40 Hillside
Juniors on a college tour trip to Atlanta GA. Students will spend four
days and three nights visiting five different universities: Georgia Tech,
Georgia State, Spellman, Morehouse, and Clarke Atlanta. In order to make
this trip possible for all students, The AVID Program is asking for our (HHS
Alumni) help. They are seeking donations to ensure that all of the
students in the AVID class of 2011 will be able to attend the trip, regardless
of their financial situation.
The AVID program provides students with the
study skills, organizational skills, and personal skills necessary to achieve
success in rigorous classes. The ultimate goal of AVID is to assist
students with the process of entering a four year college or university.
Many of the students in the program are first generation
college students. Some of them would not be able to go on a college tour
without the help of AVID. They are eager to learn and are excited about
furthering their education after high school.
Please take the time to help these students gain
a valuable life experience. Any contribution that you can make will greatly
benefit the students and will help AVID reach their goal of raising
$12,000. Make your checks out to NAAHHS and write AVID in the memo line. Send
your checks to NAAHHS, PO Box 51758, Durham NC 27717. Remember that the National
Alumni Association of Hillside High School is a 501(c)3 organizations; so all
donations are tax deductible.
The trip is scheduled for the last week in
March, so please try to have your donation to us by March 19, 2010.
Thank you for your donation and your support,
Dr. F. Vincent Allison
