Gov. Beverly
Perdue has appointed Durham Public Schools Board of Education Chairwoman Minnie
Forte-Brown to the North Carolina Council for Women.
Forte-Brown is an instructor at North Carolina Central University, a
co-founder of the East Durham Children’s Initiative and a member of the
steering committee for the National School Board Association’s Council of Urban
Boards of education.
The council advises the governor, the
principal state departments and the state legislature concerning the education
and employment of women in the state. The council consists of 20 members – all appointed
by the governor.
