Dr. Leon King - Class of 1964


Dr. Leon C. King is a Research Toxicologist for the US Environmental Protection Agency/ Environmental Carcinogenesis Division/Molecular Toxicology Branch located in the Research Triangle Park.  A member of the Class of 1964, King earned his doctoral degree in Toxicology for North Carolina State University.  King also holds a Bachelor and Master of Science Degree in Biology from North Carolina Central University.

King is a Vietnam Veteran and served with US Army, 1st Calvary Division (Airmoble), 1/9th Squadron as a heavy weapons specialist.  King received the following combat awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal, w/2 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, w/Device and Combat Infantryman Badge (1st Award); 1 O/S Bar; Air Medal.

Dr. Leon King’s professional affiliations include the International Society for Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Genotoxicity and Environmental Mutagen Society, the Society of Toxicology, the Society of Toxicology, North Carolina Chapter, the Society for Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds, the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics and an Adjunct Professor of Toxicology, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Morehouse School of Medicine.

 

King was a member of the Hillside High School Marching and Concert Band, the North Carolina Central University’s Marching and Concert Band and continues to perform as a Trombonist for the North Carolina Jazz Ensemble.
