Apostle Donald Q. Fozard - Class of 1964
Mr. & Mrs. Donald Q. Fozard
Mount Zion, old and new Basket Ball Players: Pastor Donald Fozard (second from left), Jarrett Jack (far right) and newcomers Anthony Ighodaro (left) and Terry Licorish.
Apostle Donald Q. Fozard, Sr. was born in Durham, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Ila
Mangum Fozard. He is married to the former Nora Lee Lyons. They have been
blessed with eight children and nineteen grandchildren. Apostle Fozard is a graduate of Hillside High School. He
received a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Union Christian Bible Institute and
an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Hosanna Bible College in Durham, North
Carolina.
In 1978, Minister Donald Q. Fozard, Sr., who had been ordained in the ministry
for less than one year, was asked to minister at Mount Zion Baptist Church
every Sunday. His messages were vibrant and spiritually rich as he addressed
salvation and love. Crowds of people attended Mt. Zion Baptist church; and it
was customary to have fifty or more people give their lives to Christ, at once,
Sunday after Sunday. Consequently, Minister Donald Q. Fozard, Sr. became the
Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church on the second Sunday in December 1978.
After receiving the infilling of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking
with other tongues in 1980, Pastor Fozard realized that he had to teach the
uncompromising Word of God. Under this conviction, he left the traditions of
the Baptist Church, and in 1982, rented a house at 2318 Fayetteville St. in
order to expand the Sunday school program. Pastor Fozard officially introduced
the church to the "Word of Faith Network and brought the first satellite service
to Durham, North Carolina. In 1984, after much prayer, Mount Zion Baptist
Church became Mount Zion Christian Church. Moreover, because of the growing
membership, physical space at the church became gravely inadequate. Being led
by the Holy Spirit, Pastor Fozard decided that the new building at 3519
Fayetteville St. would be built by faith. On Sunday, September 10, 1989, Pastor
Fozard led the Mount Zion Christian Church congregation as they marched to the
new 43,000 square foot edifice mortgage-free.
God revealed to Pastor Fozard the staggering influence of secular humanism upon
students in the public school system, and that divine revelation kindled Pastor
Fozard's passion to ensure that Christian parents could have a place to send
their children to be educated without the negative teachings of secular
humanism. Thus, he was to start Mount Zion Christian Academy in 1986. Through
Pastor Fozard's superintending, Mount Zion Christian Academy offers an academic
curriculum and spiritual training for students in grades K-5 through grade 12.
Apostle Fozard is a visionary. The vision, given to Apostle Fozard from God,
for Mount Zion Christian Church has grown supernaturally.
The vision includes the following: (1) Hosanna Bible College--which is a
three-year Bible college for training and preparing people for the work of the
ministry.
(2) A 24-Hour Daycare; (3) The Residential Home, which offers Christian
education to youth, who come from states and cities throughout the country. (4)
Breaking the Cycle Second Chance Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Home, that
provides a safe haven for men with drug problems. During the residential
students' stay at the home, a full-time staff provides job training,
rehabilitative counseling, adult education, and Christian Ministry.
In the late 80s and 90s, God led Pastor Fozard to commission men and women as
full-time missionaries who evangelized the city of Durham and traveled as a
Tent Crusade Team planting eleven churches in the southeastern region of the
United States. Those churches were as follows: Mount Zion Christian Church of Roanoke Rapids,
NC; Mount Zion Christian Church of Kenansville, NC; Mount Zion Christian Church
of Henderson, NC; Mount Zion Christian Church of Rocky Mount, NC; Mount Zion
Christian Church of Burlington, NC, Mount Zion Christian Church of
Hillsborough, NC; Mount Zion Christian Church of Birmingham, Alabama; Mount
Zion Christian Church of Atlanta, Georgia; Mount Zion Christian Church of
Fuquay/Raleigh, NC; Mount Zion Christian Church of East Durham and Mount Zion
Christian Church of West Durham. In 1995, Apostle Fozard was inspired to build a church in
Nigeria, Africa. After one year, the church was completed and the members are
currently worshipping in a three-storey church building.
Presently
Mount Zion Christian Church has five locations, Mount Zion Christian Church of
Durham, NC, Mount Zion Christian Church of Henderson, NC, Mount Zion Christian
Church of Rocky Mount, NC, Mount Zion Christian Church of Burlington, NC, and
Capital City Christian Church of Raleigh, NC. The vision continues with: LEARN (An organization devoted to
rescuing babies from abortion); World of Excellence Beauty College, prepares
cosmetology students for a career in one of the world's largest industries, and
Bridging the Gap Transient Home provides temporary housing for an entire family
that would otherwise become homeless because of unemployment or other crisis.
The Food Pantry serves the people of the community, at no charge whenever there
is a need. A Soup Kitchen provides a hot nutritious meal for those that are
hungry and do not have any means of buying a meal. The vision continues with an
Adult Daycare, Vocational School, and The Joseph Program. One of Apostle Fozard's goals is to have 1,000 men saved and involved
in the church. This goal is being reached by the formation of "Fruit That
Remain," a men's fellowship.
Apostle
Fozard is recognized for his
contributions to the Durham community. In 1996 and 1999, Apostle Fozard received the Community Hero Award from North Carolina
Central University. Mount Zion is one of the top referrals of various community

win souls.

people, Mount Zion has become a service church, ministering to the needs of
humanity. Apostle Fozard

serves as the President of the Unmasked Ministers Organization, which is
composed of ministers throughout the East Coast. Currently, Apostle Fozard is
