Captain Fletcher N. Daniels
Fletcher is a retiree from George Mason University Police Department in Fairfax, Virginia. Prior to joining George Mason University Police Department, he was a member of the United States Army, from which he retired as a Sergeant First Class on September 1, 1990.
He began his career at George Mason University on October 8, 1990. Upon completion of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy on April 17, 1991, he served as a Patrol Officer until March 9, 1992. At which time, Officer Daniels was assigned to the Technical Bureau as the Crime Prevention and Victim/Witness Specialist.
While assigned as the Crime Prevention and Victim/Witness Specialist, Fletcher put forth an enormous amount of effort, not only to assist the University Police, but also the University Community. He provided training sessions to new employees, students, faculty and staff in regards to Crime Prevention and Victim/Witness Assistance. Based on his initiative, Fletcher effectively increased the efficiency and availability of the Student Escort Service (Cadets).
Fletcher was promoted to Sergeant in 1995 and took over supervision of a patrol squad. In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned as Patrol Operations Commander. As Commander of Operations, he is responsible for day to day operations for three campuses, Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington.
In 2003, Fletcher was promoted to his current rank of Captain. He is currently responsible for all day to day patrol operations for the department, special events and special operations.
During his assignment at George Mason, Fletcher has continuously performed his duties in an outstanding manner receiving accolades from the university community for his performance. Fletcher has been recognized as the University Employee of the month in January 1993 and the Noonday Optimist Club Officer of the Year award for 1993. Numerous letters of appreciation were received for the effective and professional manner that he assisted the victims of crime. This position requires a great amount of sensitively and understanding.
